August 5th -v South
Townson Oval

The open Grade side, came up against the third placed South Newcastle loins, who are running Third in our competition.
It was always going to be a tough ask due to the amount of injuries throughout the grades. To there credit, the boy's who played never stopped trying.
We started with only 15 players, this included 3 minor Rugby league player's Ben Avery, Hayden Saunders from the 18's and Joel Hafey from the under 17's.
The club is very greatful for these player's filling in,none of these boy's looked out of place in a grade football side.
The final score line blew out towards the end of the game,it was hard to pick stand out player's, but Joel Hafey in his first game in Grade playing 50 minutes at hooker deservedly received player's player,
Jarrad Harris played his usual non stop game. Josh Brien and Jimmy Fernance both tried hard all day,
Hopefully we can get a few troops back for our game against Scorpions next Sunday and turn the results around from our first round encounter.

July 1st - v- Wyong
What a game!!!
We took on first placed Wyong, who had only lost one game all year.
We jumped out of the boxes to lead 18 points to 6 with 12 minutes remaining in the half , for some reason we went away from what was working for us, allowing Wyong to put on 3 converted trys and lead 24 points to 18 at half time.
The second half was one of the best defensive efforts I've seen from both teams involved ,however, poor options and mistakes at crucial times did not alllow us to score.
The end result a nil all second half.
Hopefully the boys can take something from that game even though we didnt get the points.
Players to really shine were Mitch Clarke, Zaine Morgan , and Cal Orchard. The performance of new signing Ian Hindmarsh was well noted.
I would like to thank Mark Smith and Will McGarry for runnning water and messages at short notice.

June 23rd -v- Macquarie

In Saturdays game the Cessnock side came up against a strong Macquarie side who we were even with on the ladder.
The first half was a dour affair the only points a converted try going to the opposition in the dying stages of the half.
An overload of defence took its toll on the Cessnock boys eventually going down 36 points to 4.
A highlight for the Goannas was a 80 metre runaway try to Nathan Aitchinson. Players player and best back was Ethan Ernst. Best forward was Jayden Brown.
The Coach's award was shared between Aaron Marks and Mitch Clarke and also a mention to Dave King for his contribution.
