ROUND 4 Cessnock -v- Maitland
Cessnock def Maitland
Saturday 4th May 2013

Last Saturday the 23ís travelled to Maitland and as always it was extremely tough encounter the Goeys running out victors by a slim 10 to 6 over a gallant Maitland side .

Not having a pre season trial has meant our side is taking a while to gel and most combinations are only just starting to wise up to each otherís ability in both attack and defence .

Our rawness in attack means we have to rely a lot on our defence to scramble and work hard for each other and that was no more evident than Saturday , excellent stuff .

Outstanding in the forwards was Harry Wright . He was a constant threat with his leg speed and ball carry and he continues to trouble the defensive capabilities of most of the sides we have encountered thus far .

While in the backs Cal Orchard at fullback had a terrific game troubling the pickers with his powerful ruck running and determination to put his team on the front foot .

But mostly this was a wholehearted team effort  and if we turn up with the same attitude and enthusiasm every week we will be hard to toss .

A big thank you to all the volunteers water runners and strappers for aiding our preparation , and to the under 18 players who stand by for us each week .

We need a big prep this week with plenty of encouragement for reggies and firstís to kick off their season . Winning starts today.

Remember Ďyour body can stand almost anything , itís your mind you have to convince .

ROUND 13 -v- Maitland

In what was probably the single most important game of the year the under 23 players responded well for a resounding victory over a very tough Maitland opponent .

In near perfect playing conditions the team showed with some conviction in their defence and some structure in attack we can make a difference in this competition.

Outstanding games from Zane Morgan and Sam Wilson in the forwards and  dean waring and Zeb Dunstan in the backs were a feature of an excellent win .

Most importantly is was the team playing together and encouraging each other to perform at a higher level that enabled everyone to enjoy what they were doing out there and thatís what counts .

We have a few important weeks coming up and the pressure will be on raise the performance level even further .

The best thing about the future is that it only comes one day at a time.
